1050w of Solar, 10kWh of Tesla on 36′ ATC 5th wheel ‘Game Changer’

This customer’s 2021 36′ 5th wheel Game Changer included the 7000 Onan. ATC has made a few changes with the Game Changer series and the electrical components in the basement hang from the ceiling instead of on the wall. There are some new components as well! The Victron PWM solar charge controller is now stock, sure it is only 20A and won’t handle more than a 250w panel but it IS programmable to charge Lithium batteries correctly, this is a big deal!  It comes with new equipment to protect the battery from discharging too far.

My Solution

A 10kW battery bank (two Tesla Modules) and 3000 watt inverter would allow for silent, fuel saving Air Conditioning, microwave and TV off battery at any time of day or night. The AC would run for 4+ hours.

On the roof there are three 350 watt panels for a total of 1050w to help charge the batteries and offset inverter useage.

Two of the Orion 24v to 12v converters are used to start the Onan, run the landing gear and the 12v of the trailer. This allows more room by removing all other batteries from the system!

The Progressive Industries EMS-LCHW50 was chosen to make sure that any excepted power was clean. This product is the standard to which others are measured. The hard wired version was picked to make sure it was always used and never left behind.

I installed a Victron Mutiplus 3,000 watt hybrid-inverter to run one leg of the trailer from battery power. The Victron Cerbo GX and touchscreen orchestrates all of the parts of the system well. It will data log, view and control the electrical systems. With the trailer connected to wifi/cellular I can troubleshoot and program the system remotely if needed. This system as programmed will just work off solar, generator or shore power seamlessly.

I also added a 15 amp outlet in the front compartment since there was not one on stock trailer.

Technical Information

There is redundancy for temp and voltage for the Lithium battery including mini BMS. If the Tesla batteries are ever emptied below the programmed threshold the system disconnects. There is still enough in batteries to reliably start the generator Generator via the Orions. Once Shore/Solar/Generator power is supplied the batteries will charge and the system comes back online. The charger section of the inverter can put 70A into the battery from generator/shore power.
